Mueller Speech

There Can be No Compromise
-Jenny Hays

America is known as a land of not only great achievers, but a democracy that prides itself on doing the right thing in times of tribulation, standing up for those who cannot defend themselves, leading the world through calamitous times.

However, the very things that we cherish the most are being threatened. How we will react to these challenges will define not only our laws and procedures, but will define us as citizens. Will we stay home on polling day, denying ourselves of the chance to announce to the nation our core values? Will we stay silent when our representatives, those who serve as our voice, spout intolerant and undignified views? Will we elect those who show the world that we can still be a powerful leader and force against evil?

Robert Mueller is a Republican who was elected as Special Counsel into investigating possible obstruction and collusion, corruption, in our very highest levels of government. Most leaders trusted him to be fair and impartial. Democrats and Republicans alike have relied on him to help guide our nation away from potential corruption that has the capacity to change the very fabric of our country.

However, as arrest warrants began to be issued and the probe began to reach into the deepest areas of the administration that were deemed to be untouchable, questions about Mr. Mueller’s efficacy and bias began to surface by those who believed that there could not possibly be any collusion. Rumors began to surface, suggesting that the President was searching for ways to dismiss Mr. Mueller, either directly or indirectly.

There are times in our lives where there can be no compromise. There are times when we cannot yield, because the consequences of a mutual understanding are far too great. There can be no middle ground, because doing so would be too great of a loss to the very ideals that make us who we are as a nation, and as citizens. We must recognize that any threat to the Special Counsel Investigation is a threat to not only our nation, but who we are as citizens and what we are willing to accept.  We cannot offer any compromise. We cannot offer any middle ground of our core values and beliefs. It is imperative that we see beyond the cast suspicions by those who are resistant to uncovering the full truth and who may have much as stake. We need to show the world that we are not a nation of obstructionists with corrupt leaders who do not always play by our own rules, but that we are true to our common core values and beliefs.

Throughout our country’s history, many have been asked to defend the tenants of our nation. Some have gone to war, others have run for office, many have waited in long lines at polling booths, or volunteered for their affiliated party. Now is our time to make a statement to the world that we will support the Special Counsel Investigation, free from rumor, threats, or pressure, so that we can know and understand the full truth. This will be our unyielding moment, the one with which there can be no compromise.
